The theme of the College Orientation Day 2017 was “Grow & Glow@HSMC” and it has hoped that freshmen will grow and shine with their potential and make their dream come true. Over 1,400 new students, senior year students, teaching and administrative staff participated in the College Orientation Day 2017 on 21 August 2017. Around 1,100 freshmen joined a variety of events and received important information of academic and campus life to kick-start their new college life.
In the opening session, our President Prof Simon Ho gave a warm welcome to the freshmen. Then, acting Vice-President (Organisational Development), Dr Tom Fong shared HSMC’s latest development. Afterward, Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs, encouraged the freshmen to grab every opportunity during their study life at HSMC. Then, School sessions and Academic Programme sessions were arranged to introduce freshmen with essential information on their study and let them meet their professors and fellow classmates.
In the afternoon session, the freshmen participated in different campus life activities with an aim of understanding HSMC, building connections, and featuring campus life. The activities included “恒薈” (which was arranged by HSMCSU, a hub for information of orientation activities organized by student organizations), “Campus Hunt” and “Student Life Fair” (including HSMC Sport Teams, services opportunities, HSMC Sinfonietta and Photo Booth), and more. To assist freshmen to adapt to their HSMC journey, more than 150 senior year students, serving as Campus Life Mentors to lead them and took care of them throughout the day.
